Award-winning local author Liz Adair
Lucy Shook went to Afghanistan in 1965 with her husband, Jim, as part of an American contingent from the Agency for International Development (AID).
Hired to manage the Staff House, a small hotel/restaurant that served the AID community, Lucy had fifteen Afghan men working for her. News of them infused their letters home as she became involved in their lives.
Lucy was Liz Adair's mother, and these are her letters to her daughter. In them, you see her eye for detail, her willingness to laugh at herself as a newcomer in an ancient land, and her love for Afghanistan. The author invites you to get to know her mother, as well as Sahki, Bairde, Mumadali, and a host of other interesting people through her Letters From Afghanistan.
Kanab resident and author, Liz Adair, will discuss her memoir of her mother, take questions, and sign copies.
