Story Time with Miss Allison

Allison Muir has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from BYU and a Master's in School Counseling from the University of Utah. A mother of two children, ages 8 and 5 (and expecting another close to Thanksgiving), she is the School Counselor at local Heritage Elementary here in St. George. She loves reading aloud to kids!

Cover of Apryl Stott's "Ruby's Tools for Making Friends"

A little fox uses tools to overcome anxiety and make friends at her new school in this heartfelt picture book from the creator of the New York Times bestseller Share Some Kindness, Bring Some Light! (Ages 4-8)

It's Ruby the fox's first day at a new school. She's a little nervous, but luckily, she has her tools to help: a tape measure to count her breaths if she feels overwhelmed, pliers to remind her to be flexible, and safety goggles to see things in a new way.

When Ruby finds out her class is having an egg drop competition, she wants to share her ideas, but she feels shy surrounded by all her talkative classmates. Can she use her tools to find the confidence to speak up, and maybe even make some new friends?

Cover of Ashley Woodfolk's "Beach Hair"

From two bestselling creators comes a lyrical and heartfelt picture book about a multiracial family's trip to the beach that's an ode to family, community, diversity, and--most importantly--fabulous beach hair!

When I wake up with the wildest bed head

and Mommy and Daddy do too
Mommy says we all have beach hair,
so Daddy says, "Guess we should go to the beach."

At the beach, everyone has beach hair. There's twisty and twirly hair, flossy and glossy hair, hair that's barely there, and hair that's everywhere.

The best part about a beach day is the belonging and joy that everyone feels when they let their hair run as wild and free as the sea.
